Notes

Chiefly ancestral families of Edward Cockrell (1766-1822). He was born in Lancaster County, Virginia, the son of Presley Cockrell (ca. 1730-1783) and Sarah (Sally) Ball Cockrell (ca. 1736-before 1783). He married Elizabeth Dawson ca. 1789. They had eleven children, 1790-1812. The family migrated to Ohio, ca. 1811. Edward Cockrell died in Delaware County, Ohio.

Ancestors include: John Cockerill/Cockrell (ca. 1630-after 1695) of London, England, and Northumberland County, Virginia -- William Ball (ca. 1615-1680) of Northampton County, England; Virginia; and Maryland -- William Presly (ca. 1600-1656) of Northumberland County, Virginia -- Thomas Lyde (d. ca. 1717) of Lancaster County, Virginia -- John Haynie (ca. 1624-ca. 1697) of Northumberland County, Virginia -- John Pinckard (d. 1690) of Northumberland County, Virginia -- Alexander Swan (d. 1710) of Rappahannock County, Virginia.
