William Ewing (ca.1694-1796) immigrated from Scotland (via Ireland) to Philadelphia about 1718, married Anne Shannon in 1733, and moved to Rockingham County, Virginia in 1742. Edley Ewing (1778-1847/1848), a grandson, moved to Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and then to San Augustine County, Texas in 1835. Descendants lived in Texas, Louisiana and elsewhere.

Includes Alexander, Cauley, Gant (Gantt), McCaleb, Perkins and related families.
