Contains a letter from the Society of the Descendants of Washington's Army at Valley Forge stating that John Slavin (Slavens, of Ireland) has been proven for Valley Forge Society membership; "The descendants of John Slavin from County Tyrone, Ireland" / by Thomas H. Slavens, 1940; "John Slaven" from History of Pocahontas County, p. 144-149; family group sheets; pedigree charts showing ancestors of the sons of F. William Grabendike (b. 1915) and Nita Perque Grabendike (b. 1915) / by F. W. Grabendike [shows descent from Martha C. Slavens (1835-1906)]; and excepts from Missouri, Indiana, Kentucky, and Virginia records showing members of the Slaven/Slavens families.
John Slavin (Slaven-Slavens) was born ca. 1723 in County Tyrone, Ulster, Ireland. He immigrated to America in 1740. He married Elizabeth Stuart in 1748 in Augusta County, Virginia. They had ten children, 1751-1867. He died in 1803 near Vanderpool, Bath County (now Highland County), Virginia. Descendants lived in Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, and elsewhere.
