The First Methodist Episcopal Church was also known asthe Sixth Street Methodist Church. It merged with the Central Methodist Episcopal Church in 1918 and became known as Grace Methodist Episcopal Church In 1925 the church returned to the name First Methodist Episcopal Church. It was later named First United Methodist Church.
