Microfilm of original records in possession of British Library, the India Office, 197 Blackfriars Road, London.

In 1799, by act of Parliament, the East India Company was allowed to recruit and train men for services in India. Full-time recruiting offices were established in London, Liverpool, Dublin and Edinburgh. Additional offices were opened in Cork (1822) as well as Bristol (1846) and Newry, Ulster (1846).

Registers include the recruits' name, age, height, build, color of eyes and hair, place of birth, service record and trade or profession before entering the service.
