This retrospective index "is a comprehensive place, subject, and surname index to articles from the broadest spectrum of English-languages and French-Canadian genealogy and local history periodicals."

After researchers have identified a citation in the index, they will need to look up a four letter journal code in Appendix A, B, or C to determine the title of the publication.

Contents: v. 1. (1988) Places - Alabama-Montana -- v. 2. (1988) Places Nebraska-Wyoming, Canadian places, Research methodology, Other foreign places -- v. 3. (1988) Families, A-K (Lac) -- v. 4 (1988) Families, Kuhus-Z -- v. 5. (1990) Places, Alabama-Minnesota -- v. 6. Places, Mississippi-Wyoming, Canadian places, Other foreign places, Research methodology -- v. 7. (1990) Families, A-Lab -- v. 8. (1990) Families, Kruger-Z -- v. 9. (1992) Places, Alabama-N. Dakota -- v. 10. (1992) Ohio-Wyoming -- v. 11. (1992) Families, A-K -- v. 12. (1992) Families, L-Z -- v. 13. (1995) Places, Alabama-N. Dakota -- v. 14. (1995) Places, Ohio-Wyoming -- v. 15. (1995) Families, A-K -- v. 16. (1995) Families, L-Z -- v. 17. (1998) Places, A-Z & Families, A-Z.

The library has received two installments (1988 and 1990) of the proposed 16 vol. set. Each installment contains 4 volumes. Because each installment is not cumulative, researchers will need to check the listings in both installments in order to get complete information about what is available in the Retrospective set. The fourth installment, is expected to be a cumulative 16 volume set. All four installments will be sorted into one alphabet.

"This index is divided into 5 distinct parts. These parts are places, families, Canadian places, foreign places, and a research methodology section."--Introd.

About this record

This screen shows the complete catalog entry of the title you selected.

The Film/Digital Notes contain a description of the microfilm or microfiche numbers. Some family history centers and libraries maintain collections of previously loaned microfilms or microfiche. A camera icon indicates items that are digitally available online.

Generally, catalog entries are written in the same language as the original record they describe.

Reasons why microfilms may not yet be available digitally on FamilySearch.org include:

  • The microfilm may be scheduled for future scanning.
  • The microfilm may have been scanned, but have a contractual, data privacy, or other restriction preventing access. FamilySearch makes every effort to enable access dependent on decisions of record custodians and applicable laws.
