John O. Shafer (1820-1900), son of Jonas (Jonah) Shafer and Hannah Roosa, moved from New York to Nauvoo, Illinois, married Hannah Casto in 1844, became a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1845, and moved before 1851 to Salt Lake City, Utah. Descendants and relatives lives in Utah, Nevada, Idaho, California and elsewhere. Some descendants immigrated to Alberta, and descendants lived in Alberta, British Columbia and elsewhere in Canada. Includes ancestry in New York, New England and elsewhere.

Includes indexes (listing Schaffer, Schaefer, Schaeffer, Schafer and other variant spellings).

Includes De Witt, Reiffenberger, Richter, Roosa, Shurtz and related families.
