The church was formed in 1824 as a branch of the Nottoway Church. In 1911 the Blackstone branch of Nottoway Presbyterian Church was organized separately under the name of Blackstone Presbyterian Church.
Early records often give church name as Presbyterian Church in Nottoway County or Nottoway Church.
