This is a supplement to work entitled: Van Buren Tate, diary, ancestors, descendants / Rachel Tate Smith. Albany, Tex. : R.T. Smith, c1968. This supplement contains some corrections and much additional data accumulated since the above publication, including the information that Samuel Tate (1730-1813) was the immigrant ancestor of the family. He was of French Huguenot descent, born in Derry County, Ireland, and immigrated in 1763 to York County, Pennsylvania. He moved later to Augusta County, Virginia, where he married Elizabeth Caldwell, and about 1790 they moved to Burke County, North Carolina. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and elsewhere.

Includes Bayless, Cates, Flippin, Gifford, Haynes, Heaton and related families.
