The church was founded in 1792 as Shockee Hill but not organized until 1821. It merged with Fourth Church in 1838 to become the United Presbyterian Church. The name was changed to Grace Street Church in 1870 and merged in 1915 with the Church of the Covenant to form the Grace Covenant Church.
