The church was organized in 1746 as Forks of the James Church. It was later called Halls Meeting House and then in 1789 changed the name to New Monmouth Church.

The manuscript papers on the pastorates includes lists of subscribers, congregation members, ministers, meeting minutes, and a historical paper on the Indian raids.
