Jan Joosten Van Metre came from Holland to New York about 1660. He and his wife, Macyken Hendricksen, had five children, ca. 1647-1660. His son, Jost Janse "John Van Metre of New York" (ca. 1656-1730?) married Sarah Bois (1664-1730?) in 1682 at Kingston, New York. They had five children, 1683-1695. He died by 1730 at Raritan, New Jersey. Chart follows line of descent to Jacob Van Metre and his daughter, Frances Josina Van Metre Brown. Jacob Van Meter (1796-1872) was born at Martinsburg, West Virginia, the son of Isaac Van Metre (1776-1828). He married Emily E. Lee (1812-1878) in Frederick County, Virginia. They had four children, 1833-1849. He died at Malta Bend, Missouri. His daughter, Frances Josina Van Metre (1838-1922) was born at Circleville, Ohio. She married Royal Franklin Brown (1819-1899) in 1862 at Malt Bend, Missouri. They had five children, 1863-1880. Descendants lived in Missouri, Minnesota, and elsewhere.
