Francis Hawkwood (1620/1630-1676/1677) emigrated from England to Charles City (now Prince George) County, Virginia, married Elizabeth Creed, and moved to Surry County about 1661; his surname was spelled Hogwood at times. Descendants (chiefly spelling the surname Hagood) and relatives lived in Virginia, South Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Oregon and elsewhere.
