William Edwards (1588-1622) was the great grandson of Richard Edwards (1523-1567) of Somersetshire, Wales. He emigrated to Jamestown with his four sons: John, Thomas, Robert and William Edwards. His son William obtained three patents of land, totaling 2290 acres in James City County. His other sons settled in Northumberland, Lancaster and Isle of Wight Counties in Virginia. William (1615-1673) married Dorothy (possibly Withers) and they were the parents of three children: William, John and Thomas. The family lineage is traced through descendant lines.

Includes Walker, Rives, Sebrell, Browne, Butts, Cato and other related families.
