Notes

Microreproduction of original records at the Library, Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia.

The church was first organized in 1831. It "declined and was reorganized in 1847, changing the name from Halifax to Providence in Halifax. Neither of these starts produced a continuing Church. The Church building was sold in 1879 after the Church had transferred to South Boston in 1877. Later the Presbyterians living at Houston petitioned ... in 1909 that they be organized as a Church. ... The Presbytery Commission on May 18, 1909 ... organized the Houston Church with nine Charter members. The name was changed to Halifax in 1922." -- prelim. materials.
