Michael Speer, believed to be an immigrant from Ireland, operated a ferry on the Clinch River at the site of the present Speer's Ferry, Scott County, Virginia. He werved in the Revolutionary War. He was the father of at least five sons. Descendants listed lived in Kentucky, Indiana, Kansas, and elsewhere.
