Includes index.

Based upon a former general catalogue comp. by the late Rev. Benjamin M. Smith, published in 1884, before the removal of the seminary from Hampden-Sidney to Richmond. cf. Pref.

"In the present edition, which is based on Dr. Smith's and is more indebted to that, perhaps, than to all other sources, the attempt is made to give the names of all persons who have been connected with the Seminary from its foundation by the Synod of Virginia, in 1812, to the present time, whether as trustees or professors or students." -- Pref.

The seminary was established in 1807 at Hampden-Sidney College but it was formally instituted by the Synod of Virginia in 1812 as a project of the Presbytery of Hanover. The seminary was moved from Hampden Sidney to Richmond, Virginia, in 1898.

Contains a historical sketch of the Union Theological Seminary and biographical sketches arranged in chronological order.

Directory of the alumni alphabetically by years attending the seminary p. 37-176 followed by an index of the students.
