This church was organized in 1715 as the North or Second or Upper Ecclesiastical Society of Middletown. Part was set off as part of Westfield Society in 1766. In 1851 the part of Middletown known as Upper Houses was incorporated as the town of Cromwell. In 1853 the Society formally changed its name to the First Congregational Society of Cromwell. The church incorporated in 1906.
