Preachers of the Methodist Church first visited East Glastonbury in 1793. From then until 1810 meetings were held in school houses, private houses, barns and in the open air. In 1810 the Society deeming themselves able, erected a chapel at Wausuc, near the house of Rev. Jeremiah Stocking. The chapel was occupied until 1846, when it was taken down and a new church erected. The new church edifice was dedicated in 1847.
