Alexander Montgomery was born ca. 1712 and came to Albemarle (now Amherst Co.) Virginia ca. 1745. He married Mary (surname unknown) who was likely his second wife. By the year 1759, they moved their family to Orange Co., North Carolina and had three known children born to them. Alexander died in the early part of 1768. Descendants lived primarily in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kentucky and elsewhere.

Includes information on the descendants of James Cole (b. 1812) in Russell Co., Virginia who married his second cousin Edith Jane Montgomery who was a fifth generation descendant of Alexander Montgomery.
