The early ancestor, Jeremiah Macknew, immigrated to the Province of Maryland in 1668 possibly from Scotland or Northern England. He and his wife Phillis settled in what was then Charles County. In 1696 Prince Georges Co., Md. was formed from the Parish of St. Paul, Calvert Co., and the Parish of Piscataway, Charles County. The early Marler ancestor, Edward Marler, also came to Maryland in 1668.
