Buckingham County was divided into at least two tax districts. The lists for each district were either bound in separate books or bound together, often with other years.

The commissioner of the revenue was required by law to make copies of the tax lists for the county treasurer, county clerk, and the state auditor (or Department of Taxation). The lists at the Virginia State Library were probably the copies sent to the auditor.

Land tax lists were also known as land tax books or land books.

Gives name of owner, residence, type of estate, amount of land (acres), value of land and buildings, amount of tax, and other information. Information varies from year to year.

Microfilm of original records at the Virginia State Library in Richmond, Virginia, and the Buckingham County Courthouse in Buckingham, Virginia.
