John Higginbothham was born in 1695 in the Parish of St. Philip, Barbadoes and immigrated to Goochland (now Albemarle) County, Virginia. He married Frances Riley and died between 1741 and 1744. Record chiefly follows line of descent to Benjamin Graves Higginbotham (1788-1862) of the fourth generation and especially his son, James Larkin Higginbotham (1828-1913). James was born in Green County, Alabama, and married Margarett Elizabeth Thomas (1829-1898) in 1850 in Noxubee County, Mississippi. They had seven children, 1851-1868. He died in Noxubee County. Descendants and relatives lived in Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, California, and elsewhere.
