"The book contains photostat prints of the first part (pages 1-162) of the Vestry Book of Albemarle Parish, in Sussex and Surry counties, preserved in the Episcopal Seminary Library, near Alexandria, Virginia." -- Typed note at beginning.

Albemarle Parish was formed in 1738 to cover the southern portion of Surry County. Sussex County was created in 1754 from that southern portion. Albemarle then covered Sussex County while any part of it which remained in Surry County was added to Southwark Parish.

The parish vestry was required by law to perform many civil governmental functions, such as land processioning, taxation, taking care of the poor, guardianship of orphans, road repair, etc.

Contains land processioning, church accounts, care of the poor, and other information. Includes 1787 account of the overseers of the poor.
