The book details the ancestry of three men and their families who were immigrants to Virginia in 1717. The first was Hans (Johann) Michael Klaar (Clore or Cloar) who lived with his wife Maria Barbara (Anna Maria Barbara) and family in Gemmingen, Baden, Germany. The next person was Michael (Wolf Michael) Käfer. He lived in Zaberfeld, Württemberg, Germany and was the son of Wolfgang and Elisabetha Käfer. The last man was John Thoma (Thomas) who was born in 1685 to Albrect and Barbara Thoma in Neuenbürg, Baden, Germany. He married in 1711 Anna Maria Blankenbühler. He died soon after arriving in Virginia and his widow married the aforementioned Michael Käfer (Kaifer).

The Germanna colony was located in Spotsylvania County but may also have been in part of Orange County, Virginia. Some of the immigrants moved to Madison County, Virginia.

Includes information about the Second Germanna Colony of Virginia and lists of its colonists.
