Microfilm of original records at the Franklin County Courthouse in Rocky Mount, Virginia.

The commissioner of the revenue registered births and deaths for the county and then turned his books over to the clerk of the County Court. The clerk made abstracts to send to the state auditor and would also preserve the books in his office.

Includes general index. Some volumes are also individually indexed. General index is divided into three sections: births, marriages and deaths. Births section gives name of child, birth date and page number. Marriages section gives name of male or female and page number. Deaths section gives names of deceased, death date and page number.

Birth register gives birth date, name of child, race, sex, born alive or dead, birthplace, name of father or slave owner, father's occupation, father's residence, mother's full name, and sources of information. Marriage registers give date and place of marriage, full names of parties, age and condition before marriage, birthplaces, residences, parents' names, husband's occupation, and name of person performing marriage. Death register gives name of deceased, race, name of slave owner, sex, death date, cause of death, age, parents' names, birthplace, occupation, if unmarried or name of spouse if married, and sources of information. Information may be incomplete.
