"The contents of this work concerns the existing land, property, wills, and estate records found for the many Hudson--Hutson residents of Virginia, beginning with their earliest recordings, continuous through the year 1850 or thereabout." (v. 1, p. vii). Since West Virginia was part of Virginia until 1863, records are included for those counties in which Hudson--Hutson residents were evident. Arranged alphabetically by county (chronologically thereunder). Vol. 1 has land grants made in the state of Virginia, as well as county records covering Accomack through Chesterfield Counties. Vol. 2 has county records covering Culpepper through King George Counties. Vol. 3 has county records covering King & Queen through Northumberland Counties. V. 4 has county records covering Nottoway through York Counties.

Includes indexes (including listing of given names under index entry of "Negro" or "Negro slaves"); also lists Hutson as a variant spelling.

Includes Bell, Booker, Hill, Holland, Jeffress (Jeffries), Moon, Owen, Robertson, Tatum and other families.
