Charles Ison first appears in Amherst Co., Virginia, where he took out allegiance to the Colonies in 1773. Charles Ison and Frances Bird took 200 acres of land in Scott County, Virginia in 1796. Charles and his wife Jane were living on part of this land when he died in 1833. Descendants lived in Virginia, Kentucky, and throughout the United States.

John Gilliam was born about 1614-5 in Gravesend, Kent, England, the son of Richard Devereux Gilliam. He married (1) Ann Bathurst and (2) Margery Randolph. His will was probated in 1651 in Norfolk, Virginia.

Contains correspondence, family group sheets, pedigree charts, extracts from records, etc.

Includes the Ellis, Williams, Williamson, Preston and other connected families and spelling variations of Ison: Eason and Isam.
