Capt. Thomas Carter (fl.1652-1667) immigrated before 1652 from England to Lancaster County, Virginia, and married twice. Robert Carter (1735-1784), a direct descendant in the fourth generation, moved from Virginia to Bertie County, North Carolina, and served in the Revolutionary War. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York and elsewhere.
Includes Dale, Foster, Marbourg, Ray, Stone, Williamson and related famialies.
