Parental ancestors of Jeri Michele Howe, great granddaughter of the author. She was born in 1972 at Carmel, California. Her father, Jerry Warren Howe, was born in 1944, the son of Warren Franklin Howe (b. 1917) and Betty June Burke Howe (b. 1921). He married Linda Brouilette (b. 1943), daughter of Isadore and Roslyn Brouilette, in 1967 at Cave Junction, Oregon. They had a daughter and a son, born 1972-1973, at Carmel, California, and Grant Pass, Oregon.
Ancestors include: Thomas Hancks (before 1630-1674) of England and Virginia; William Burke (fl. 1861) of Ireland and the United States; Joseph Howe (1819-1883) of Ohio; and Joseph E. Thompson (m. 1875) of Cumberland County, England, and Iowa.
Andrew Jackson Hanks (1815-1889) was born in Grayson County, Kentucky, the son of William and Elizabeth Hall Hanks. His father, a native of Richmond, Virginia, was the brother of Nancy Hanks, the mother of Abraham Lincoln. His family migrated to Indiana in 1824 then to Macon County, Illinois, in 1825. Andrew Jackson Hanks married Malinda Porter in 1837. They had nine children. The family migrated to Des Moines County, Iowa, in 1839 and settled in Pleasant Grove Township.
