"This genealogy of William Augustus Battle 2nd was presented to the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa in memory of her father by his daughter, Katherine Harrison (Battle) Alexander (Mrs. Norman Smith Alexander)"--(leaf after t.p.).
Mathew Battle (d.1669), son of William Battle and Margaret Dukes, immigrated during or before 1647 from England to James City County, Virginia. His brother, John Battle (d.ca.1690), immigrated in 1654 to Nansemond County, Virginia. William Augustus Battle 2nd (1853- 1908) was a direct descendant of Mathew in the eighth generation, and was moved from Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Birmingham, Alabama. Most of the genealogy in this work covers the ancestry of William Augustus Battle 2nd, chiefly through many nobility lines in England, Scotland, France and elsewhere.
