Spencer Morgan was born in 1796 in Mecklenburg Co., Virginia, the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Kemper Morgan. His family more to Culpepper, Virginia, when he was four years old, and then to a farm in Union District, South Carolina, five years later. He married Nancy Lipscomb, daughter of Smith Lipscomb, in 1820. He was living in Georgia when he wrote this record.
