Notes

Thomas J. Hinds (b.ca.1638) was born in Dresden, Ohio, and moved to land near Whiteford, Monroe County, Michigan. He enlisted in the 18th Michigan Infantry Regiment in August 1862, and was promoted to Sergeant in January 1864. In September 1864 he was captured at Athens, Alabama and imprisoned in Cahaba P.O.W. Camp, Alabama. He was paroled in March 1865, to be in charge of a ward at a Parole Prison Hospital in Vicksburg, Mississippi until after the war ended.
