Notes

Microfilm of original records at the Historical Society in Concord, New Hampshire.

These cards index the volumes of New Hampshire Province Deeds and Probate Records from 1623-1772, under names of individuals named in the documents. The first 100 volumes have been microfilmed and may be consulted on the films at the State Library. Volumes over 100, not yet microfilmed (1953), are in the Rockingham County Court House at Exeter, New Hampshire.

White cards refer to property transactions; yellow refer to wills and inventories. Blue refer to the volumes at Exeter.

Many of these records have been published, omitting legal phraseology, in the New Hampshire State Papers volumes 31-39, chronologically arranged. In using this index, note color of card in copying volume numbers, (as that denotes the location of the particular volume) noting also page numbers, as volumes are not individually indexed.

For records of deeds after 1772, refer to probate offices in the county seats: for example, for deeds concerning Gilsum, New Hampshire, refer to the Probate Office at Keene, county seat for Cheshire County where Gilsum is located.

Includes index.

About this record

This screen shows the complete catalog entry of the title you selected.

The Film/Digital Notes contain a description of the microfilm or microfiche numbers. Some family history centers and libraries maintain collections of previously loaned microfilms or microfiche. A camera icon indicates items that are digitally available online.

Generally, catalog entries are written in the same language as the original record they describe.

Reasons why microfilms may not yet be available digitally on FamilySearch.org include:

  • The microfilm may be scheduled for future scanning.
  • The microfilm may have been scanned, but have a contractual, data privacy, or other restriction preventing access. FamilySearch makes every effort to enable access dependent on decisions of record custodians and applicable laws.
