Andrew Susong (1738-1826), a Revolutionary War soldier, was a native of Alsace-Lorraine, France. He and his wife, Barbara, also a native of Alsace-Lorraine, were married ca. 1762. They had four children, 1764-1777. The family settled near Lexington, Virginia, after the Revolution, then migrated to Rockingham County, Virginia; Washington County, Virginia; and then Greene County, Tennessee. Andrew and Barbara Susong are buried in the Susong Memorial Cemetery in Greene County. Record chiefly follows line of descent of Henrie Polk Bowen Carey. She was born in 1894 at Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of Arthur MacMurray Bowen (1854-1924) and Cora Caroline Stevens Bowen (1856-1931). Her maternal grandfather was John Windsor Stevens (1813-1888), who was the son of Conrad Stevens and Anna Barbara Susong Stevens (1793-1861). Henrie Bowen married Hugh Francis Carey (b. 1894). They had two sons, 1921-1929. Children and grandchildren were living in Tennessee in 1960. B.
