Colonel Thomas Pettus (1610-1660) immigrated to Virginia in 1638. He had an estate "Littleton" near Williamsburg. He was the ancestor of Anne Pettus Shelburne, who was born 31 Jan. 1749, the daughter of Colonel Thomas Pettus (1712-178) and his wife, Amy Walker Pettus.
Includes the Fowlkes (Gabriel Fowlkes, d. 1775, of Hanover County, Virginia); Craig (David Craig, fl. 1805, of Motgomery County, Virginia); Harvey (William Harvey, 1727-1767, of Cecil County, Maryland); Burwell (Major Lewis Burwell, 1621-1653, of Gloucester County, Virginia); Digges (Col. Edward Digges (1621-1675, of Yorktown, Virginia); Hesson (Balser Hesson, fl. 1760, of Frederick, Maryland) and other material lines of the Shelburne family.
