Confederate soldiers received pensions for military service beginning in 1879. The law establishing pension payment was changed in 1891 to include widows of soldiers.
There are cards in this record for the witnesses of these soldiers and widows attesting to the service of each soldier. The arrangement is alphabetical by the name of the pensioner and included on the card are: notations concerning the county of residence, unit designation, and husband's name in the case of widow cards.
