The inhabitants of Colchester were given leave October 1703 to form a church. Part of the First Society was set off as part of New Salem Society in 1725. A part was set off as part of Westchester Society in 1728. A part was set off as part of Marlborough Society in 1747. Antioch Society, which was established within the limits of the First Society in May 1774 is now extinct. The early records of the First Church and Society are missing.

"These records of the Second Congregational Church, Colchester, Connecticut, now Westchester, North Westchester and formerly Westchester Ecclesiastical Society covering the period 1729-1761 and 1764-1807 -- records 1761-1764 missing -- were photostated November 5, 1935. The Westchester Ecclesiastical Society was set off from Colchester in the year 1729 and the records of this parish found in contributions to the Ecclesiastical History of Connecticut prepared under the direction the General Association Connecticut, published in New Haven in 1861, do not mentiany stated pastor for the period 1762 to October 1764.".
