Francis Lewis I (1747-1785) was the son of John Lewis and Catherine Fauntleroy of Halifax, Va. He was a Revolutionary War veteran. In 1767, he married Lucy Dudley, daughter of Dudley and Annie Hamlin. Descendants and relatives followed the Ark-La-Tex route. Some of them settled along the way and some continued to California.
