Peter Vanlandingham (ca. 1764-ca. 1832), a son of Benjamin Vanlandingham, was living in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, in 1780. After his father's death, he and his sister, Elizabeth, were placed under the guardianship of Peter Winstead. Peter and Benjamin were both related to the Vanlandingham family in Virginia, and Benjamin probably had migrated from Virginia to Edgecombe County. Peter and his wife, Martha Balland, had eight children. The family migrated ca. 1825/1827 to Wikinson County, and later Decatur County Georgia. Descendants lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida and elsewhere. Many descendants spelled their surname Van Landingham.
Includes the Allen, Chaster, Connell, Davis, Dawson, Gristed, Johnson, Rowen, Winstead-Winsted and other connected families.
