John Toole (1756-1792) immigrated from Ireland to Bucks County, Pennsylvania, served in the Revolutionary War, and married Ruth Ann Rankin in 1779/1780. They moved to Washington County, Greene County, and Knox County, Tennessee. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and elsewhere.
