This "1949 revised edition" is a revision, with many additions and corrections, of a 1940 pamphlet (which was also chiefly typescript, carbon copy) entitled: The ancestry of Benjamin Turney of Concord, Mass. and Fairfield, Conn. / compiled by Mrs. Turney Sharps; the 1940 pamphlet is available at this library as "film only.".

Hugh Caulkins (ca.1600-1690) immigrated with the Welsh colony under Rev. Richard Bliman to Green's Harbour, Massachusetts about 1640 with his wife Ann and 4 children. Descendants (chiefly spelling the surname as Calkins or Caulkins) and relatives lived in New England, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and elsewhere.

Vol. 1 contains indexes (at beginning).

Includes Beebe, Clark, Darrow, Hall, Kellogg, Palmer, Smith, Turner, Utter, Wells and related families.

All Calkins entries at the Secretary of State's Office, New Hampshire (not placed in families; those so placed are indexed; these items are not indexed; ends with year 1899). Stray Calkins data sent me by Mrs. E.A. Calkins of Mason, Michigan (all items are located in the state of Michigan). Secretary of State's Office of Calkins deaths in the state of Massachusetts (some placed in families).
