The Nova Scotia Board of Registration and Statistics was responsible for the Nova Scotia census.

Some records missing or incomplete.

Arranged by census district (generally by county). Within each county, arrangement is usually alphabetical by name of township. Cities, towns and villages are often enumerated separately from the townships in which they are located.

Between 1841 and 1867, Ontario was known as Canada West and Québec as Canada East.

Contains the 1861 census for Ontario and Québec (united as the "Province of Canada") and the independent provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Includes agricultural censuses at the end of each county or township.
