Digital images of originals housed at the NARA, Southwest Region, Fort Worth, Texas.

Digital images of land allotment records for the Five Civilized Tribes in Indian Territory. Under the terms of the 1887 Dawes Act, Indian reservations were surveyed and lands held in common by the tribes were allotted in smaller parcels to individual members of the tribe. These records describe the parcels of land and name the tribal member to whom each parcel was allotted. Records are arranged by name of tribe (Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek and Seminole), by membership designation (member by blood, by intermarriage or freedmen), application number and according to age group -- newborn and minor children are listed separately. The application files numbered 237, 5695, 7680, 7946, 16807, 19289-19290, 21336, 22017, 24261-24265, 28705 of Cherokee by Blood were missing at the archive. Files numbered 2260-2264 of Creek Freedmen and 6581 of Creek by Blood were also missing. FamilySearch is indexing these records now and the index will be published when it is complete.

Some folder numbers may be missing and were not digitized or microfilmed.

Some of the folders are not in numerical order and are located throughout the digital image.

About this record

This screen shows the complete catalog entry of the title you selected.

The Film/Digital Notes contain a description of the microfilm or microfiche numbers. Some family history centers and libraries maintain collections of previously loaned microfilms or microfiche. A camera icon indicates items that are digitally available online.

Generally, catalog entries are written in the same language as the original record they describe.

Reasons why microfilms may not yet be available digitally on FamilySearch.org include:

  • The microfilm may be scheduled for future scanning.
  • The microfilm may have been scanned, but have a contractual, data privacy, or other restriction preventing access. FamilySearch makes every effort to enable access dependent on decisions of record custodians and applicable laws.
