Samuel Shrewsbury was born in Bedford Co., Virginia, in 1763, the son of Samuel and Betsy Dabney Shrewsbury. He fought in the Revolutionary War and was wounded at the battle of the Cowpen in South Carolina. He married Mary (Polly) Dickinson, the daughter of Col. John Dickinson, 11 December 1785, in Augusta (now Bath) Co., Virginia. He died 1 April 1835.
