Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Stanley (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from Ireland, the Isle of Man, and England (especially the counties of Cheshire, Derby, Lancaster or Lancashire, and Stafford). One of their earliest ancestors was Adam de Audley (Alditheley or Audithlegh) who is recorded in the 1085 Domesday Book. Thomas Stanley immigrated to the Virginia Colony prior to 1681. Other Stanleys also immigrated to Connecticut, North Carolina, and Virginia in the 1600's-1700's. Some focus is on (but not limited to) the Quaker Stanleys of Hanover Co., VA, beginning with Thomas Stanley, the immigrant and his three known sons, James (baptized 1688), Thomas Jr. (bapt. 1689), and John (bapt.1691). Many descendants were Quakers and members of the Upper Springfield Monthly Meeting of Friends at Damascus, Columbiana County, Ohio. During the 1800's, some moved to Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Later descendants also lived in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, and Ontario (Canada), New South Wales (Australia), Spain, and in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, and elsewhere. Some married persons with American Indian bloodlines. Information is extracted from cemetery inscriptions, census records, church records (especially Quakers), deeds, marriage records, obituaries, parish records, shared research, other published works. Years covered are 1066 A.D. to the present.
