Notes

The Carter County Clerk has records created by federal agencies primarily from the time it was part of Indian Territory. The removal of restriction records were created by the United States Department of Interior Bureau of Indian affairs. The allotment and homestead patents were created by the General Land Office.

These record books have varying titles and appear to have been organized in several series and then combined. What they have in common is that they record land transactions which happened before statehood in the area that became Carter County. The records include mortgages, liens and deeds in addition to records pertaining to Indian allotments and homesteads. Many of the volumes are titled "Old Record.".

Includes indexes to some of the records. The indexes cover part of the miscellaneous mortgage and lien records.
