Notes

The information in the index cards summarizes the information included in the census, listing name of parent; post office or street address; name of tribe if Indian or freedman and name, race, sex, birthdate (day, month, year) and age of child. Also tells whether the child was deaf, dumb or blind. The actual census forms include the same information but may also include notes and attendance records.

The index generally covers from 1914-1962, but coverage depends on the year the district was created and if it merged with another district. Some years are missing for some of the districts. For one district, Dickson #77, the index covers up through 1963.

A list of school districts and numbers is filmed at the beginning of each part of the index and on the first microfilm reel of the the census forms.

Includes an index recorded on cards which are filed in order by school district number, then by year, then alphabetically by surname of parent or guardian.
