Dougal Campbell was born in 1656 in Scotland, the son of John Campbell (b. 1621) and grandson of Duncan Campbell (b. 1612). He and two brothers immigrated to Ireland and settled at Coleraine, County Derry, Uster. His son, Dougal Campbell (ca. 1710-1795), immigrated to Pennsylvania, with his family, and then migrated to Berkeley County, West Virginia, where he purchased land in 1762. In 1780, he moved to that part of Augusta County that is now in Rockbridge County, Virginia. Descendants listed lived Virginia and elsewhere.

Includes the Bell, Donald, Mebane, Moore, Tabb, and other related families.
