William Clayton Vance was born 12 August 1860 in Rockingham, Augusta, Virginia. His parents were Archibald H. Vance (1832-1863) and Sarah Catherine Shepherd. He married Elizabeth Margaret Whitesell (1862-1939), daughter of James David Whitesell and Francis Huffman, 24 November 1881. They had ten children. William died 20 March 1946 in Charleston, South Carolina. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, South Carolina and California. Includes Anderson, Price, Yancey and related families.
